Run your ChatGPT ads next to the inquiries they bring

ChatGPT ads in re:praesent: campaigns, spend and the inquiries they brought.

OpenAI now sells advertising inside ChatGPT answers. If you have an OpenAI Ads account, you can connect it to re:praesent and create campaigns, see what you spent and how many people clicked, and report the inquiries your website forms receive back to OpenAI. Your ads and the inquiries they bring are then in the same app.

People now ask ChatGPT where to go

People already ask ChatGPT which studio to visit, which product to buy and which local business can help. OpenAI sells advertising space in those answers.

For a business that already advertises on Google or Facebook, this is one more place to be seen. It is also one more login, one more report and one more set of numbers that says nothing about whether anyone actually wrote to you.

That last point is the real problem. A click costs money. Only an inquiry tells you the advert worked.

How advertising in ChatGPT works

This part is OpenAI’s, not ours. In short:

  • You register as an advertiser at ads.openai.com.
  • You complete billing and add your brand logo in OpenAI’s Ads Manager.
  • OpenAI reviews the account. Campaigns can only run after that review.
  • You pay per click.
  • Ads are kept separate from ChatGPT’s answers, and conversations stay private from advertisers.

What you spend on the ads is billed by OpenAI.

What you see in re:praesent

Once your account is connected, the OpenAI Ads page in the app shows:

  • Which advertiser account is connected.
  • A New campaign button, so you can create and manage ChatGPT campaigns without going back and forth to Ads Manager.
  • The numbers for the last 7, 30 or 90 days: what you spent, how often your ad was shown, how many people clicked, what a click cost on average, and how many results OpenAI counted.
  • Your spending over time.
  • A list of campaigns you can search, with status, bidding, budget, spend and results for each.

Google and Facebook campaigns stay on their own page. ChatGPT campaigns are under OpenAI Ads.

How to connect it

  1. In OpenAI’s Ads Manager, open Settings, then API keys, and create a key.
  2. In re:praesent, open Settings, then OpenAI Ads.
  3. Paste the key. It is checked against your advertiser account before it is saved.

The inquiries from your website forms already arrive in re:praesent. You can turn on reporting, so that these inquiries are sent to OpenAI as results. The campaigns then learn from the people who really contacted you, not only from clicks.

What it does not do

It does not create your OpenAI advertiser account, and it does not speed up OpenAI’s review. Both are done with OpenAI.

It does not bring inquiries in from OpenAI. People who click your ad come to your website and write to you through your own forms, as any visitor does. From there the inquiry is in your list with all the others.

It makes no promise about results. Advertising in ChatGPT is new, and whether it pays for a shop, a studio or a practice is something you find out with a small budget and a close look at who contacted you.
